AND FINALLY . . .
The twins are the symbol of Gemini, suggesting the duality of the Gemini character.
People born under this sign are very versatile and adaptable. Gemini is an air sign, which indicates compromise.
Geminis are attracted to Virgos, Librans and Sagittarians.
Famous Geminis include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , Marilyn Monroe and Ann Frank.
This is just a little piece of homework from my first year in college. Fortunately, after that first year we only had the assignments to deal with rather than both! We had to do a one to one chat with a colleague
and then write about it. Steve told me that he had always dreamed about going to this place and described it in great detail, but I turned it into something else.
As the Writer in Residence at Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, I would often just walk around looking for inspiration. It follows that the atmosphere there would change with the seasons.
During one walk in the closed season (winter) I noticed how quiet it was compared to the busy months in the height of summer. This is the short piece that it inspired.
Bison Bison is the result of an idea that I have had for a poem for many years. However, the opportunity to bring it to fruition came with a prose assignment for my degree. The task was to create the first chapter for a novel. There were no creative boundaries at college and I decided to test this and my abilities to the fullest.
“From the unusual source of fiction to the swapping and sliding real-life/spirit life viewpoints, this work evidences bravura and ambition from beginning to end. The theme is a familiar one as are the locations and settings, but the characterisation and quality are
something else. Language is used very creatively yet kept in check. On all levels this is a successful piece of work.”
“You have taken a risk with this – no doubt about it – but there is inherent logic and careful planning to the approach that still firmly anchors the text into success. There were so many ways this could have spun out of control, perhaps appearing contrived or over-complicated, but your authorial voice keeps the wild animals and speeding trains reined in. Inventive, insightful, disturbing.” Dr Chris Dows, Course Director.

This was an exercise in creating a story based on historical research. I chose the Great Fire of London that happened in 1666 and wrote about what I imagined a young lad’s experience of it might have

been. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed doing it, especially the research. One of my sources, The Dreadful Judgement by Neil Hanson (ISBN:0-552-14789-3 Corgi Books), was an excellent read.
Many, many years ago during the early years of my writing, I went through a stage of (how can I put it?) Inner solitude.. My late wife, Pauline came back from the local market and presented me with an old wooden statue of an ancient warrior. “I was told to buy this for you” she said. Now, we were both committed
spiritualists and she was an excellent medium. What she meant was that spirit had told her to buy it.
It means a lot to me, especially since Pauline’s death and stays proudly on my desk.
This piece of prose was written a few days after she gave it to me.
